Pecho Coast Trail Reservations
The Pecho Coast Trail offers two guided hikes, the 3.75 roundtrip hike to Point San Luis Lighthouse, and the 8 mile roundtrip hike to Rattlesnake Canyon. Please carefully read for more information about the two hikes. The trailhead for both hikes is accessed via Avila Beach and parking is available at the Port San Luis Harbor parking lot, located at the base of the pier. Directions can be found at Pecho Coast Trail Driving Directions. Allow extra travel time for traffic and parking conditions.
Please do not park at gate displaying the Lighthouse tour banner; park in the Port San Luis Harbor District parking lot (see Driving Directions for details). The trailhead is at the Fisherman's Memorial located between the Port’s parking lot and Diablo Canyon Power Plant’s entrance gates.
The hike to the Lighthouse is 3.75 miles, round trip, moderately strenuous with uneven terrain, steep cliffs and grades, narrow trails, crumbling earth. Sturdy hiking shoes are required. Due to the uneven terrain infants in carriers are not allowed and children must be at least 9 years old. Due to sensitive habitat, pets cannot be allowed on trails. The trail to the Lighthouse is open to 20 hikers on Wednesday and 40 hikers on Saturdays with an 8:45 a.m. check-in and a return time of 1 p.m. Reservations are required. If a cancellation is necessary, please call (805) 528-8758 or (805) 541-8735 or email email@example.com.
